That's what happens when you move manufacturing to Taiwan and China. Luggage companies are going too far with cost cutting. The lack of pride and workmanship in these countries is astounding... Not just in luggage but in just about everything manufactured there.
And for exactly this reason, if I had the time, I'd return the goods as defective and request a replacement that properly reflects its price.
