You can always apply it, see what clears, and call to remove it any time before departure. I'd go ahead and apply it. Maybe you'll clear at the window for one of the flights and have a better idea of what your tradeoff is.

I cleared an RPU into Polaris J on 77W EWR to SFO at the window on a $199 fare. I was pretty surprised and very happy.
