Per JoeDTW: 11. Fill in the blanks on this 1978 advertisement: Only ______________offers Business Coach. Compare it with anyone else’s First Class service and price. We think our low $______ surcharge makes Business Coach a travel bargain you’ll want to say Yes to.
Per JoeDTW: 13. Fill in the blanks on this 1967 advertisement: Last year, 400,000 Americans flew ____________ to over 87 cities within Europe. And never saw a stiff upper lip.
My guesses for the ads:
11. Hughes Airwest, $10 surcharge
13. BEA
Correct on both counts, Joe! I flew RW's Business Coach on a couple of occasions - you got a First Class seat and free drinks. Meal service was the same as in the back of the plane. It was a great deal in the days before free status based upgrades.
It would be interesting to see what a ticket on BEA would have cost back in the 1960s vs. the same route today. This past spring I flew on Norwegian from London up to Helsinki for just $87.00. I shudder to think what that would've cost 50 years ago.
Per JoeDTW: 4. After three days in Las Vegas during which you saw Wayne Newton’s show and won $12.75 at the slots, it’s off to Wichita, Kansas. You had expected to have to make an enroute connection and so are pleasantly surprised to find that the LAS-ICT route is served by a single daily nonstop flight. Identify the airline and the aircraft operating that flight.
I'll guess America West, with a 737-200.
HP would certainly seem the logical choice between LAS and most anywhere but - in late 1988 at least - a different airline utilizing different equipment was operating the sole nonstop flight to Wichita.
Please, guess again!
