OP states that they bought a "Virgin G seat" but then that it was Delta marketed and ticketed. In this case, is it not possible that OP has bought (perhaps unwittingly) a VS PE seat, not Upper Class?

This would be explained by jdrtravel's post that G is a DL code for PE booked on VS metal.
