Thanks for your input. I suppose a lot of it has to do with the policies or discretion of the airline?

I've flown from Vancouver to Manila with no issue while omitting the "Philip II" portion of my first name, but was denied a domestic flight (Philippine Airlines) because I left out the roman numerals in my first name. That experience has made me quite paranoid now.
