The representative told me that there isn't such a thing as a certificate booking and that I should just present my reward certificate to the hotel front desk in lieu of payment. No, the CSR is wrong. Call and make a new booking using your Citi free night certificate (good for standard room only). Tell the CSR you want to redeem your free night certificate.
Once reservation is confirmed, log on to your account and then cancel your first reservation.
