I did NYE a couple years ago in Auckland at the SkyCity Grand. The hotel party was overpriced and not really worth it. Auckland was absolutely dead on New Year's Day - lots of places closed IME.
There were other choices to do on NYE in/near Auckland that we should've done instead, but we were so beat from the rest of our trip that we just wanted something easy.
