"Duct" Tape used to tape up the cover to oxygen masks
Has this happened to you?
I was on AA 192, HKG-LAX, this Saturday when on the right side 3 rows of oxygen masks (9 total oxygen masks) "deployed" on take off. The flight was full and my stomach churned thinking we might have to turn around and have an extensive delay.
After about 15-20 minutes, 2 pilots came to the back and inspected it. They carefully put it back in and duct taped it shut. The FAs brought out 3 out of 4 portable oxygen tanks to be be placed under the seats in front of the 3 rows. They asked the passengers in the 9 seats if they were ok with this; otherwise, we would have to turn back to Hong Kong. All 9 said it was ok.
Things that interested me:
- Duct tape can solve any problem
- Where did they get the duct tape?
- Both pilots mentioned it was the first time they experienced this
- On a full flight there were 4 open seats. The pilot mentioned them, but since there were 9 people affected it wouldn't solve the problem.
