I flew once before on a LHR-JFK and was given the opportunity to proactively upgrade at OLCI for about £500. For that booking I had my AAdvantage number in, but for this I have my BA Exec number in.

To clarify this is Cash upgrade not miles, as I am using BA Exec in this booking.

You could be offered a cash upgrade at checkin online, kiosk or counter. AA calls these 'LFBU' - see https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...aster-thd.html, and good luck.
