OP here.
Yesterday we continued our journey, flying QR J on a 777 from BKK to HAN.
It was a 90-minute flight of which I spent 60 minutes dozing, having enjoyed the Thai Royal Orchid Lounge rather too much

Within 5 minutes of me sitting back up (and seat belt signs on for the descent), an attentive crew member noticed and came and asked me if I would like to eat, having missed service through being asleep... the food turned up shortly thereafter. I ate leisurely and my table was cleared about 10 minutes before arrival. Compare and contrast a similar situation coming back JFK-LHR in CW last year when the answer I got was "sorry, we've finished serving - you should be able to get a coffee at Terminal 5"
On QR the feeling I have had is of being personally looked after (similar to my experiences at Intercontinental hotels). On BA, it's more like Holiday Inn Express: if you fit into the process, then things generally go smoothly but if not, there is little or no flexibility...
MAJOR CAVEAT: not yet experienced IRROPS on QR so there is every chance my affection will sour one day
