I was flying with someone in E+ and later had to change my flight. The person I was traveling with kept the E+ seat. However, UA does have the right to kick people out as the benefit requires you to be traveling with your party.

No-showing your leg won't cancel your family members return trips, just yours (even if you're on the same PNR).
