Software for multileg check in dates from the 1970s. We are not streaming 4K at 4:4:4 colour sampling here.

I think personally it's far more likely the desk agent simply didn't know how to do it. This has happened to me a few times on interline bookings, but never BA->BA. There are several different ways to do it. Often a second person tries a different way to do it when the first person fails.

Future tip: Probably not the most politically correct thing to say, but try to find the oldest-looking member of staff and ask him/her to help.
