Supply and demand my friend. BA and VS can charge that sort of money because there is clearly healthy demand from people who value a direct service. Personally I am with you insofar as I do not mind breaking the journey and a couple of hours in Al Mourjan sipping Billecart Salmon and Brane Cantenet is not a hardship for me. But I suspect for a lot of others time is of greater value and/or they don't fancy the faffing about and/or genuinely are OK with BA and/or are less concerned about the cost.

I had the same 'dilemma' recently with WTP on BA being the same price at EK J to BOM. I had no hesitation in taking EK but I do know people who would have opted for BA in these circumstances.
