1. I-fares CAN be upgraded providing they were orgionally purchased direct from BA
2. MFU can be applied from any origin

With regards to the problems with a ticket containing AA segments, they are correct- if you have a through fare (a single fare basis for the entire trip) then it would very complex to upgrade only the BA part of the ticket... hence the reason for the whole-BA-itinerary rule.
