Exactly- the same argument comes up in the airline fora about the value of a segment qualifier doing 250 mile hops vs someone flying international J class. Some hotel programs dilute points earning for their extended stay properties because the average rates are so low compared to the business-targeted brands, but for the most part, truly big spenders will hit each tier on points rather than stays or nights.
