we were surprised this morning, flying from EU-CAN-USA.

we checked in at airport and my companion (schengen citizen w/ USA visa) was told that she needed ETA for the transit in toronto. even though she had done that route the year before.

the airline agent checked with a neighboring colleague, and then even phoned a supervisor, who confirmed that this new rule came into effect back in May or June.

we applied for her ETA on the spot, using our phone, and it was approved in literally minutes. .....





except when we landed in toronto we were shuffled through to USA connection (gate F) , and only went through USA immigration, and the Canadian ETA that we fretted about at the airport never was checked for.

whats the deal? does she need to apply for another ETA for the travel back USA-CAN-EU?
