Do you have some Avios in your account? Find a day when you can do a cheap LCY-AMS cash ticket one-way, and then book an award ticket back on the same aircraft (ie back-to-back) - the latter should be 4,000 or 4,500 Avios plus £17.50. Or the reverse, if a cash ticket AMS-LCY is cheaper than a cash ticket LCY-AMS.
Then you do not need to spend a day doing this. For example, the BA8459/BA8458 pair departs LCY at 1705 and arrives back at LCY at 1955. So if you're close to LCY, you could even skive off work early that afternoon and still be home in time for dinner.
