From your (and others’) experiences, how likely or often are Plats being upgraded to Grand Deluxe Rooms when the cheapest room is booked? From what I gathered here, it seems an upgrade to a suite is near impossible without a SNA.
I’ve checked out their lead-in rooms in person and find them a bit meh, mainly due to the conventional room layout and the sterilely white tiles in the bathroom. While I didn’t personally check out the Grand Deluxe rooms, they look a lot better from the professional photos on TA.
Agree the lead-in rooms are not as impressive, they do have very high quality furnishings but the size is a bit small vs. other Tokyo 5 star hotels (c.40sqm vs. the c.50sqm that's normal).
I can't speak as a Plat as I'm not quite there yet (next month!), I got a generous upgrade this time I think as a combo of FHR and being a multiple times returning guest (+ Gold). I know last time I stayed I was lucky to get a one cat Amex FHR upgrade in advance on a very busy night from Club to Grand Deluxe Corner (was flagged by the hotel as a special one off as part of a service rectification issue from the previous stay - I think this was true as a Plat friend staying at the same time got zero upgrade!).
I think I mentioned earlier in the thread it doesn't seem unusual for all rooms and suites above Club level to be sold out in advance leaving little/no upgrade availability - they are beautiful rooms!
