I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve and basically I went from having no status with National (didn't travel or rent cars for work nearly as much as I do now) to straight to the Emerald Executive. It is a defined benefit with this card though.

Obviously there are costs associated with the credit card so not totally "free" per say....
