I have done the same. For me it is a no brainer, save money. I have bought a number of BE tickets for the future. I have saved some significant $ for future travel. Shopping around for best price, since the last devAAluation, I am a free agent.

I am lifetime PLT (so don't care about EQM/EQD), have admirals club throught credit card, etc.

So, AA's unintended consequence is that I am buying cheaper fares on flights I would have purchased anyways.

I buy with CSR for trip Insurance and also have a separate annual trip insurance policy in case anything goes wrong.
