I'm an American Airlines lifetime Gold member, and I've just booked a revenue flight from JFK-DOH-EVN.

The OneWorld website indicates that my (admittedly not hugely useful) OW Ruby status entitles me to:

"Preferred and pre-reserved seating when offered by the airline operatiing the flight"

This afternoon, I called QR customer service in an attempt to reserve a seat with a bit of extra legroom on the JFK-DOH leg and was told that all bulkhead seats, exit row seats as well as 12G, 20G (seats with no seat in front) are under airport control (i.e. unbookable).

The agent wasn't able to answer the simple question "What seats are available to me that are not available to a non-elite member?"

Is there any way to select these seats, or is this a case where QR just does not offer preferred seating to Ruby members?
