Following up on my post from five months ago: the account credit that appeared when my referral link was used vanished soon after. Maybe the person just didn't go on to actually use the service, otherwise the system is broken.
For the benefit of anyone following, the process still works -- ac130's use of my link was followed by a $5 credit to my account.
