This is about "recurring charge". Change card number would not stop it.
I would chime in on a fraudulent charge on my Chase card that happened to be a "recurring charge authorization" type of charge from the 24/7 LA fitness center thousands miles away from home.
While Chase agreed that was fraudulent charge and replaced the card, the following month same fraudulent charge still went thru as it was "recurring" type.
Called Chase and the rep told me there was nothing they could do - the ONLY way, the fraud dept rep literally told me this, is for ME to call the merchant informing them the card used was a stolen card....
Long story short, thanks to google, I was able to track down the billing dept of the 24/7 LA Fitness. At that time it was based in Panama City or some place in Central America! The guy at the billing dept told me it was a Physical Card used for that account. I told him the card was a cloned card. Lucky for me this guy seemed to understand (probably he has come across many such instances). He told me he would suspended the card and the account used that card. The fraudulent charge stopped from that point.
As for the current situation, I am in the camp that OP needs to find a way to cancel the service. All these companies purposely make it very hard for the you to cancel the service so they can scam more money from you. Sleazy practice but very common among "subscription" type of service of all kinds.
