You can have more than 2 on the same PNR to get preferred seats.

As FO there's no guarantee that you and your wife will seat together if you are upgraded, unless it's a medallion light route. If upgrades go to the gate (most likely in your case), you can always indicate to GA that you don't want to be upgraded if you cannot sit together.
