Not sure how you're defining "large car" but the real world fuel economy difference between a Compact, Intermediate, and Full is negligible. Most people would be happy to get the upgrade and it would be a reasonable request to ask for one of those instead of what you reserved. Perhaps there is another HLE wherever you are trying to rent.
