I have had cases where I couldn't get a room at the hotel of my choice, but I have never had a situation where I couldn't get a decent room at a decent hotel. (I don't attend the SuperBowl).
I have, unfortunately, on a routine night. A couple of flights cancel, some bad weather and misconnects, fills up all the excess rooms in a lot of cities.
