Thanks, that'll be my only carry on item. My wife is travelling with me and she can bring on the rest.

I checked in a apple 27inch monitor once with SQ from HKG-SIN. It arrived fine. It will be okay as long as u have all the original packaging. Taking it on board is like taking a medium size suitcase on to the plane. Some airport won't even let you passed security with that.
I'm more afraid of lost package. I'm pretty sure they don't cover expensive electronic for check in luggage.

4. After you check-in, go find friend and take big monitor from him/her.
5. Clear immigration.

Haha I'd rather be upfront with them at check in and see what they say about it to avoid later drama.
