Years ago I tried something like this with a 3-day New Year's "plenary retreat" to draw up the New Year's Resolutions. Find a boring place within 3 hours' drive of ATL, get the best sub-$50 hotel deal possible (maybe sub-$65 now) and make it a mostly cocoon-type experience that isn't overscheduled.
The timing is significant because it's when I want/need a type of break (holidays are especially hectic in my work), but I just don't wanna pay the airfares or high car rents/hotels for some places.
So I picked Greenville, South Carolina. Though I've managed to find enough even there to cause distractions and mess with plans.
