I actually have a case study for you of this as well...Our French made product is In the process of replacing a British made equivalent on the Club World and First menu because BA thought our quality was better (and it clearly is). However we have also had this conversation with another leading British long haul carrier and they will not stock our products until
they are made in the U.K. - food for thought!
I think you make another very important point here in that even though many British travellers may prefer British brands, many brands are actually more obscure to international travellers than many of their foreign equivalent. Butter was a good example here. We recently had a thread with some posters unhappy about President butter and wishing the British equivalent had been chosen in CE. The truth is that not only President is a decent unsalted butter but it is also a far better-known and trusted brand by travellers from many countries than the British equivalent would be (we are talking same price range and industrial production here, not some small farm fresh churned Jersey butter or something).
I think the same would be true of a number of other products.
