To me, the insane YQ is like 'resort fees' charged by the hotel industry. It indicates the lowest amount of money BA wants to cover seat costs and lost revenue (from a potential paid booking). The other thing is that I wouldn't be surprised if, with AA having such a small (comparatively) network even for revenue J fares, BA wants to discourage redemption. I know it's working for me!
