The multi-day issue shouldn't be goofing you up, because, I have certainly done similar with the standard "less-than-24 hour" connection, but, the fact that your connection is over 24 hours seems a little odd. I wonder if there's a fare break, or perhaps one of those fares where you're allowed a stopover for a small additional fee <like $100>.
I think it would help to see the fare breakdown on your ticket receipt.
