Regarding the other thread, I suspect that there are many other complicating factors in that other case that led to the account shutdown. Without full knowledge, I think it's pointless to speculate.

For your particular question, I think that's precisely what points pooling is about - I've transferred my wife's (pretty much orphaned) points to my Diamond account for redemption without issue.
