and again i have no idea if this would even work because i don't know if you are allowed to make changes like this on a companion fare after you've started the ticket.
I always try to maximize my companion certs so I get a one-way AND a round-trip out of each one....for example, I wanted to use a companion cert on a DFW-PDX one-way in June (2017), but since I didn't want to waste it on a one-way, I went ahead and booked a PDX-PVR round-trip for February (2018).
