You can downgrade to the no AF Preferred card. Which will keep your history with Citi going. AFAIK this will keep any points you have from expiring. But you will not be able to transfer those points to a FF program without access to a AF card.

Probably. When I downgraded Prestige to Preferred the account number changed, which I had to assume means a reset. It'll be difficult to get a reliable answer either way, though, since I don't think you can trust what an agent tells you about this.
