Very frustrating- I imagine IB and TP had a miserable day yesterday too and presumably there is nothing they can do in the form of claiming compensation from France/French ATC. As for the routing, it may have been quicker to go Italy, SUI, Germany, Belgium, but probably not much in it and they were probably at capacity anyway.
