My iPad Air 2, purchased in November 2015 with the Chase Ink Cash Visa card, locked up Sunday. No response at all from the screen.
I opened a claim on Sunday, uploaded email for the original purchase, my credit card statement, a copy of the Apple Warranty.
Then on Monday evening, I went to nearby Apple Store for getting a repair estimate. They tried a DFU restore and wiped out my data and installed a new OS. Again, screen is unresponsive to any touch, though it shows a new iOS setup screen where you have to choose the language.
They said they wouldn't repair it (model is no longer sold) but would swap it for a brand new unit, which they have an inventory of as a service part (model is 3 years old now) for $299 plus tax.
My original purchase price was $546 plus CA sales tax so close to $600.
I uploaded the Genius Bar repair estimate with this replacement value to the cardbenefitsservices.com site (had to create an account for the original claim).
So currently approaching 48 hours since I opened the claim.
Apple has given me until this Sunday to do the swap at the store, though I think they may extend it if I request.
Will see how long they hold this.
I found out that my no-fee Citi Double Cash will add 24 months warranty to the manufacturer's warranty or whatever extended warranty I purchase separately.
