My friend and I have an award flight scheduled for next next month from SFO to ICN, but there are some issues coming up that may prevent him from going. I understand there is a rebooking fee for KRW 30,000, but a cancellation is a 3000 mile deduction. He transferred points from his Sapphire Reserve which he subsequently closed, so if we cancelled the flight, it would be tough for him to add those 3000 miles back to book the flight without opening a new card.

Given that we still want to do this trip but are just unsure when, could we rebook the flight sometime well into the future, pay the fee, and then perhaps rebook it again (and pay the fee again) once we confirm our plans, thus ensuring we don't lose any miles?
