Although Marriott International is now one company, with Starwood no longer existing as a separate company, there are still two loyalty programs. Marriott-legacy properties accept and award Rewards points. Starwood-legacy properties accept and award SPG points.
If you link your Rewards account and your SPG account, you can quickly and easily move points in either direction. There is no skim in the process.
1 SPG point = 3 Rewards points.
3 Rewards points = 1 SPG point.
Linked accounts also give you your higher earned elite status across both programs.
Rewards Category 1-5 e-certificates can only be used at Marriott-legacy properties. They cannot be converted to comparable SPG e-certifcates.
The Rewards and SPG programs will be combined into a single loyalty program, probably late 2018 or early 2019. The date and details have not been announced.
