I go to the restaurant for breakfast when I have time to eat and want to try a bunch of different things. It's got a bit more variety than the lounge. Coffee is poor but I usually opt for the milk-tea (teh tarik). I don't care for smoked salmon at hotels, especially when the hotel is many thousands of miles from where salmon are caught and lox produced. Then again, I live in the Pacific Northwest so I'm kinda spoiled on that front. I want a quick meal while reviewing the day's work/plans in a quiet place, definitely the lounge. They also have espresso machines in the lounge if you want better coffee.

East (new) wing was absorbed into the Renaissance some years ago. They've gradually gotten things close to par with their 5-star at birth neighbor. With the recent upgrades, I don't think the hard product lags behind at all anymore. However, the West (old) wing has a more traditional/classical elegance decor, almost opulent. East wing has a bit more modern, brighter decor that is a bit simpler. I suspect that partly contributes to the perception of one being grander than the other. Either way, I've not had a bad stay in either wing over the past 10+ years I've been visiting KUL for work.
