What's the deal with all the generous credit card offers?

In the last 3 months, I have applied for and received the following annual fee waived cards:

1. United Visa (15K bonus, no fee for the first year)

2. AAmerican Visa (12.5K bonus, no fee for the first 6 months)

3. Delta Amex (12.5K bonus, no fee for the first year)

Annual Fee cards:

4. Hawaiian Air Visa ($55 annual fee for 10K miles -- good for two inter-island award flights which I will be using so it was well worth it)

And now I hear there is a NWA Visa with 7500 bonus miles and no annual fee for the first year...

Why all the generous offers? Is there a hidden message behind them? Or should I just sit back and enjoy the ride (free ones)?

And my credit score is a rock solid 792 so I'm not worried about all the inquiries...
