This seems like something that AERO should be able to handle easily without having to delve into the command line world of SHARES. I see United not wanting to allow stitching together non-UA/non-interline itineraries together when it comes to baggage on AERO for the purposes of saving money (or losing out on fees) but for 2 UA issued tickets I’d be surprised that the functionality doesn’t exist — unless that goes back to the fee point.
Given that Aero is a product of the SMI/J regime, I'm not at all surprised that saving money for UA trumps customer service.
