Going to India - but coming back via YYZ to BOS in Nov - options?

My wife and I are going to India in Nov.

We wanted to book a discounted P class fare - cheapest AC would offer was approx $4700-$4800.

Star Alliance was offering (for a party of 2 - so perhaps this was a companion type fare of the other thread) a fare of CAD$3200-$3300 - from Boston. Other US destinations were slightly more expensive.

On the dates we were interested in, cheapest fare was a UA issued ticket - where we would go on LX from Boston to Zurich to Delhi; we would come back on AC via YYZ to BOS.

I am planning a separate Aeroplan YOW-BOS-YOW ticket.

We will of course have checked bags.
Coming back, would our checked bags would forwarded straight through to Boston - we need not pick up our bags?

However, would we have to go through normal Canadian customs (we have nexus), or via the OSS mechanism?

Of course, I will ask what happens if we were to end our journey on this ticket at YYZ?
