Same here, never had it happen for anything but an early check-in. If it did, I'd probably just ask them to store my bags, and head out and find something interesting to do. Life's too short to fume in mediocre hotel lobbies (I don't work for companies with particularly generous travel policies). For a work trip, I normally just dump bags, splash water on my face and head straight out anyway.
