I have been both, currently 75k. My personal opinion is that I don't think 75k is that much better. The perks of being 75k I value the most I can get at Gold. But I say if you want it, go for it! You'll accrue Alaska miles faster with 75k and the complimentary entertainment player is nice if you're doing a lot of cross-country flying and you didn't get upgraded to first class.
