Thanks for all your replies. I wanted to know the lay of the land before I started running my mouth to the United reps (don't have status yet so I still get routed through the main call center). Looks like I probably wont be getting a refund but at least I got the longest segment out of the way (Sfo-hkg) and I can live without going to guam.
