The separate credit card number that is tied to data inside the secure enclave on the particular device is much better than providing a string of numbers that the ecommerce site has to store in a way in which they can get at the numbers.
Eh, credit cards being stolen is such a non-worry. It's so easy to get fraudulent transactions reverted that I don't worry about it; SSNs/SINs are so much more of a problem to have them stolen.
