No that's ok! It means you can't fly from USA mainland to US territories via China. This would in effect be a domestic flight via China and is not considered onward to a third country.
You are arriving from the USA and continuing to Thailand. And on the way Thailand-China-USA. Both of those are acceptable for TWOV.
