It’s a risk play as well; I don’t care if it’s Visa Checkout, masterpass, ApplePay MDIeC - exposing a usable card number to as few parties as possible in ecommerce is real, and browser exploits that harvest card numbers are a thing - the core issues that have sent card data from POS systems into the wild could be deployed on the PCs used in the airport environment (especially via CUTE terminals and kiosks).

It’s a nice speed boost on inflight, but for everything else it’s largely a security play.
