Sorry for the delay in following up. I emailed the hotel back and they clarified by indicating the property would be fully booked and they wanted to ensure I would show up. I did not put a guarantee as I knew I'd be arriving midday. Also was under the impression there was a default credit card on my "PNR" with Accor. The hotel's reply included a form that I agreed to fill out and fax my cc details back to them. I would not normally do this but they also indicated that if I did not, they'd cancel my booking.
I did not really appreciate the attitude expressed in the correspondence, but put some of it off to local cultural attitudes and familiarity with the English language. I plan to speak with the GM or one of the Assistant Managers when I arrive on Saturday though.
thanks for the follow-up, but if you didn’t provide any CC guarantee at the time of booking, I find their request perfectly normal. And you mention the CC details stored in your profile, but the hotels do not have access to that fortunately !! This feature is a convenience offered by the Accor website for your booking.
