Unlikely, given what you have just stated.

But why did you ask to be put on all-KL flights, instead of asking to be put onto the direct GA89 service which departs 5 hours earlier, AND which is direct non-stop (unlike the KL service which stops in KUL)?

No, unfortunately their only obligation is to allow you to cancel without penalty if you so choose.
